Dr. Marcel Veltkamp, MD PhD
Studied both medical biology and medicine at Utrecht University, after which he started his training as a pulmonologist at St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein (The Netherlands). During this training, he started his research on sarcoidosis, receiving a PhD in 2011 on a thesis entitled ‘Sensing of pathogens by Toll-like receptors in Sarcoidosis’. He completed his specialist training by working for 6 months as a Fellow of Interstitial Lung Diseases at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven (Belgium). Since 2013 he has been working as a pulmonologist at the ILD Centre of Excellence of the St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands. He is a guest editor of the section Sarcoidosis 2017 of Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine. His main research interest includes - among others -causes of sarcoidosis and use of biologicals. Furthermore, he is an expert in the treatment of Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP)
