Summary of the Conference “Management of Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Diseases”
The Conference “Management of Sarcoidosis and Interstitial Lung Diseases” took place in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, from 22-24. April 2019. Venue Metropol Palace hotel in the city center of Belgrade.
120 registered participants were present until the very last minute of the conference with great interest for the remarkable lectures.
Guest lecturers from all over the world made this conference a unique happening and all of them are well appreciated.
Awesome lectures were given by: Robert Baughman, Daniel Culver, Marc Judson, Semra Biraceloglu and Elyse Lower during the first day of the conference. Experts from the region Irina Strambu (Romania) and Demosthenes Bouros (Greece) participated as great lecturers.
The second day inspirational lectures in the field of neurosarcoidosis were given by Mareye Gering-Voortman (Netherlands), and further on lectures dedicated to IPF by Ganesh Raghu, (on diagnosis and therapy of IPF ), Martina Vasakova with the EMPIRE register data, Ales Rozman and Katarina Osolnik from Slovenia on cryobiopsy and lung transplantation in ILDs.
The third day was committed to the topics of the QOL and supported by the presence of Surinder Birring well-known author of the quality of life questionnaires.
The conference was endorsed by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Lung Foundation (ELF) as well. Jeanette Boyd (UK) from the Patients` Project organized a working group with 10 patients` representatives from Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Serbia and USA.
The overall character of the conference was “like family reunion“ as Johann Hochreiter from Austria wrote in his email after the conference.
Representatives from 13 countries all over the world made this conference a unique event.
My personal appreciation for the utmost support goes to doctors Robert Baughman and Elyse Lower from the US. Their charisma gave an exceptional character to this event.
