WASOG BAL 2011
At the congress party of the WASOGBAL 2011 conference, in the most beautiful bookstore of the world – Selexyz Dominicanen Maastricht, four award winners were announced. All winners received an iPad to even more improve the flexibility to continue and stimulate their research.

Award for the best oral presentation
From the 100 abstracts submitted, an international review panel selected 8 abstracts for giving an oral presentation. Out of these presenters the best oral presentation was chosen by the chairs, prof. dr. Roland M. du Bois (CV) and Dr. Wonder P. Drake (CV); The oral presentation by Drs. Rik Marcellis (CV) from the Department of Physical Therapy and the just closed ild care centre of the Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+). His presentation was entitled: ‘Impaired gas exchange, exercise capacity and muscle strength in sarcoidosis’. His abstract was also awarded by the ild care foundation and the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research USA.
Award Dutch Pulmonary Fibrosis Society
There were three nominees for this award. Drs. Nicoline Korthagen (CV) from the Center of Interstitial Lung diseases of the Sint Antonius Hospital Nieuwegein, the Netherlands won the award for her outstanding abstract entitled: ‘Association between polymorphisms in the P53 and P21 genes and IPF’. This was an award on behalf of the Longfibrosepatientenvereniging Nederland for Excellence in Pulmonary Fibrosis Research in the Netherlands.
Award for the best abstract related to BAL
Drs. Kyra Oswald-Richter from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, Tennessee, USA for her outstanding abstract entitled: ‘CD8+ T cell exhaustion in sarcoidosis disease’. This abstract was awarded by the ild care foundation and the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research USA. View her e-poster.

There were also three nominees for this award. Drs. Rémy L.M. Mostard (CV); from the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Atrium Medical Centre, Heerlen and ild care consultancy, the Netherlands, won the award for his outstanding abstract entitled: ‘Association of HRCT findings with pulmonary PET activity in sarcoidosis’. View his e-poster. This was an award on behalf of the Sarcoïdose Belangenvereniging Nederland (SBN; Dutch Sarcoidosis Society) for Excellence in Sarcoidosis Research in the Netherlands.
